OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To develop risk based recommendations to prevent zoonotic
diseases, including Avian Influenza in humans and to effectively communicate
public health events of international interest to relevant authorities under
the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) .
Description of
duties:
Under the supervision of the Director, Food Safety, Zoonoses
and Foodborne Diseases (FOS), the incumbent will
undertake the assigned duties in collaboration with different units within
WHO (at headquarters, regional and country levels), other international
organizations (including UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World
Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and UN International Labour
Office (ILO) and relevant authorities in member states.
Summary of assigned duties:
Manage and advance INFOSAN Emergency (including communication with Member
States), the generic FOS Food Alert mailbox and provide support to outbreak
response and zoonotic alert activities.
Assess the risk of food safety aspects of avian influenza throughout the food
chain continuum.
Support the development of risk-based guidance for specific at-risk groups
for avian influenza and participate in the development of cross-departmental
products on avian influenza.
Contribute to the promotion and implementation of Healthy Food Markets in
particular with regards to avian influenza prevention and control.
Develop the INFOSAN Network to ensure the relevant International Health
Regulations' requirements are met.
Develop the INFOSAN Network to link with the Global Early Warning and
Response System for Major Animal Diseases including zoonoses
(GLEWS) , the Crisis Management Center at FAO and
national veterinary services.
Contribute to the activities on microbial risk assessment.
Contribute to the development and implementation of a Fundraising Strategy
for microbiological Food Safety area.
Any other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: Advanced university degree in food-related science or
microbiology.
Desirable: University degree in animal or human health. Formalized Risk
Assessment training.
Skills:
An excellent understanding of food regulatory systems, food safety risk
analysis, foodborne disease outbreak response and
food contamination event management as well as the food safety aspects of
avian influenza.
Experience:
Essential:
At least seven years of experience in the fields of regulatory management of foodborne disease events and food recalls and food
production throughout the food chain with at least 2 years at the
international level.
Experience in risk analysis and the development of risk-based guidelines.
Experience in building and managing international systems in relation to food
safety.
Desirable: Experience in the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point
System and in the Healthy Food Markets approach.
Experience in the development and running of international food safety
networks
Experience in WHO or other UN Agencies or with NGOs
and bilateral agencies.
Experience working with or in developing countries.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English or French with a working knowledge of the
other language
Annual salary: (Net of tax) USD 63052.- at single rate USD 67709.- with primary dependants
Post Adjustment:87.6 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be
considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards
or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
